I made Ralph during my second year of University for rig class. Therefore he is my first rig ever. 
The design choices were made to illustrate a panda robot that is supposed to work with something that is very sweet and good AKA heart monitoring. 
Though Ralph isn’t a sweet guy, he likes to pretend that he is, but he is actually planning something very evil. 

The reason I went with this idea is that we were supposed to make a character that looked like a specific thing (Like: Innocent) but is in fact something totally different and we were supposed to visulize that with the design choices.
